Become River

The river, the namesake and musical motif in Robert Schumann’s „Rhenish“ Symphony No. 3, gives the musicians of ensemble reflektor the musical occasion to grapple with their relationship to nature.
Desperation and grief over the irreparable devastation of the present-day climate crisis motivates a search for answers and a way forward. In the German premiere of the work „Become River“ (2010) by John Luther Adams, the individual voices merge into a great musical river; this transforms into the euphoric atmosphere of the Schumann Symphony and in so doing, introduces a hopeful perspective for a peaceful coexistence of humanity and nature.
