Transformation

Mendelssohn and Umm Kulthum, European classical vs. music of the Middle East.

Music history is full of works whose themes are „transformation.“ With these pieces, composers herald new eras, emancipate themselves from musical patriarchs and matriarchs, and create monuments to social change. ensemble reflektor, in a recurring collaboration with the Syriab band, has chosen works from this immense body of European compositions, which are enriched by Syriab’s selection of traditional dances and songs of the Middle East, arranged for chamber orchestra. In so doing, the artists sound out new paths on which to venture together.
